Do you have difficulty accessing public transport?
Our Newbury and Thatcham Handybus offers low cost door to door travel to help you get where you want to go, whether its shopping or a social club.
We have a fleet of seven and fourteen-seater minibuses, modified to provide easy access, suitable for for people in the local community who have limited mobility, can’t manage the buses or don’t have a bus service or a stop nearby.
Am I eligible to use the Handybus?
If you have limited mobility, can’t manage the buses or don’t have a bus service or a stop near you, but need to get to:
- day centre
- leisure venue
- the shops
- holiday accommodation
then you could be eligible. However, places are limited and always in demand, so we cannot necessarily guarantee you a seat.
Regular journeys (book a ride)
We run several regular journeys each week. Booking in advance is preferable.

Chairman Vehicle
This car can accommodate a wheelchair user in comfort, along with a driver, one front passenger and one rear passenger. To book the Chairman vehicle and a volunteer driver for a medical appointment, please call 01635 49004 between 10am and 1pm, Monday to Friday.
The Chairman vehicle is available to support individuals who require a specially adapted vehicle to help them get out and about. Use of the vehicle is provided as part of our charitable community transport support services.
To enquire about using the vehicle, please send us an enquiry here. Please allow at least two weeks’ notice, particularly if this is your first time using the vehicle, as some induction and checks are required before arrangements can be made.
