What are Village Agents?
The West Berkshire Village Agent project aims to put older and / or socially isolated residents in direct contact with community, voluntary and statutory agencies that offer help and advice, and to assist them in engaging in local activities.
Volunteer Village Agents provide a coordinated face-to-face close signposting service for people living in rural communities, and offer a trusted and well-known friendly face at the heart of the community. They make a positive impact by helping people to gain access to services and information and to continue to lead an independent life in their own homes by making the best use of existing services that are available to them.
This is a new idea for West Berkshire, but Village Agent services have now sprung up in Somerset, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire and Bedfordshire.

The possibilities are endless ...
We are actively looking to recruit and train Volunteer Village Agents in the parishes of Burghfield, Stratfield Mortimer, Theale, Calcot, Bucklebury and Greenham. We would also be interested to hear from potential Village Agents in the remaining parishes of West Berkshire with a view to increasing the depth and breadth of the project. Please contact our Village Agent Coordinator Gill Comley to find out more about the service or indeed to ask for a Village Agent to call on you or someone you know.
